How To Troubleshoot Your Internet Connection

Having trouble with your internet on Windows 11? No worries. This brief guide will take you through straightforward steps to troubleshoot and resolve common issues. From checking connections to adjusting settings, it's an easy way to get your internet back on track.
Check Physical Connections:
- Ensure that all cables, including the Ethernet cable, are securely connected.
- If using Wi-Fi, make sure your device is within range of the Wi-Fi router and you have your wireless antennas connected, if they are required. Restart Modem and Router:
Restart Your Router:
- Turn off your Router and completely disconnect from power.
- Wait 10 minutes.
- Plug the Router back in, switch it on and wait for it to power up.
Run Network Troubleshooter
- Right-click on the network icon in the taskbar.
- Select "Troubleshoot Problems."
- Follow the on-screen instructions to let Windows diagnose and fix network issues.
Network Reset
- Type 'Network Reset' into the start menu.
- Click Get Started.
- Manually restart your PC.
Setting a fixed DNS Server
- Right-click on Start and select Network Connections
- Select Change Adapter Options
- Open your Network Adapter by double-clicking on the Wi-Fi Adapter
- Select Properties
- Select Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then Properties
- Check the box “Use the following DNS-Server“
- Enter for preferred DNS-Server: 8.8.8.8 and for alternate DNS-Server 8.8.4.4
- Click OK and close the other windows.
- Check your internet connection again.
Release and renew IP
- Press Windows key +X
- Select Terminal (admin) or PowerShell (admin)
- Type ipconfig /release and press Enter. Your internet will disconnect.
- Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter. Your internet will reconnect.
Flush the DNS
- Press Windows key + X
- Select Terminal (admin) or PowerShell (admin).
- Type the following command ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.
- Check your internet access again.
Get a new IP Address
- Follow the steps to open the network adapter again
- Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is selected.
- Click Ok to close the windows
- Press Windows key +X
- Select Terminal (admin) or PowerShell (admin)
- Enter the following command netsh int ip reset
- Reboot your computer
Check Network Card Power Management
- Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."
- Locate and expand the "Network adapters" section.
- Right-click on your network adapter and select "Properties."
- Go to the "Power Management" tab and uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn off the device to save power.
