DIAGNOSING FAULTY MEMORY WITH MEMTEST68
How to diagnose your faulty memory.
1) Download MemTest86+ Auto-Installer for USB.
Please note: Make sure that the USB that you use is blank prior to use, otherwise, the other files will be deleted. Download link: Download MemTest86 Free
Note: Once the link is clicked, it will automatically download to your PC.
2) Right click the memtest86-USB file and click 'Extract all' and select your destination folder, this will usually default to the same download folder as the ZIP.
3) Once extracted open the folder named 'memtest86-usb'. Then double click the application "imageUSB" to run the installer/setup. It'll open the Window shown below.
4) Make sure your USB stick is selected and then leave the rest of the settings as default and then click the "Write" button to begin the process.
5) You might get a confirmation window pop up, just make sure the details are correct and then click "Yes"
6) This may take a few minutes to complete and a command window will briefly appear. This is part of the process so ignore it, Once it's done the "imageUSB" app will close and you'll see the files that have been installed onto your USB.
7) After it's finished you can close up any work you have open and restart your computer. Make sure to leave the USB plugged into your computer. MemTest86 will automatically run once your computer is restarted if the USB option is the first boot priority. You can set this by pressing F8 on most computers.
8) Upon restarting and launched by the USB the test will begin to run and will display like one of the images below and it can run for a few hours.
9) The test will now run through diagnostics. If your memory is faulty it will advise you in the on screen display, with the total amount of errors.
10) Once the test is complete, let us know how you have gotten on and we will be able to advise further.
